Recovered Organic Traffic by Fixing Misconfigured Canonical Tag

Client:

D2C Manufacturing Brand | Wooden Home Furniture
(Products: sofas, beds, wardrobes, storage units)

What was going wrong?

- The website suddenly started losing organic traffic and impressions.

- There were no content changes or technical updates made recently.

- After a quick check, I found that the canonical tag on the homepage was pointing to a different domain.

- Because of this, Google treated the homepage as a duplicate and stopped indexing it properly.

What I did:

- Fixed the canonical tag so it pointed to the correct homepage URL.

- Submitted the page again for indexing using Google Search Console.

- Kept an eye on traffic and crawl status for the next few weeks.

What happened next:

- Traffic started to recover in just a few weeks.

- The page reached 87.1K total clicks and over 16 million impressions.

- Average ranking position came back to a steady 14.1.

Tools used:

- Google Search Console

This was a small technical issue with a big impact. Fixing it on time helped the brand avoid long-term traffic loss. Regular SEO checks really do make a difference.
