India's startup job market is changing quickly in 2026. Companies are hiring across software engineering, AI, data, product, design, marketing, sales, operations, and other business functions, while the strongest candidates are increasingly expected to show that they can solve practical problems rather than only list skills on a resume. Current startup job boards and hiring directories show active openings across sectors such as SaaS, fintech, consumer technology, AI, e-commerce, healthtech, logistics, and media.
I’m Riten, founder of Fueler, a skills-first portfolio platform building the career infrastructure for 100 million creative professionals. Fueler connects talented individuals with companies through assignments, portfolios, and projects, not just resumes or CVs. Think of it as Dribbble/Behance for work samples combined with AngelList for hiring infrastructure.
If you are searching for Indian startups hiring in 2026, the first thing I would suggest is to stop looking at startups only by their brand name. Look at the kind of work they are hiring for, understand what the role actually requires, and then build evidence around those requirements. A software engineer should show working systems, a product candidate should show product thinking, a designer should show case studies, and a marketer should show campaigns and measurable outcomes.
The list below focuses on Indian startups and startup-led technology companies that have shown hiring activity in 2026. Openings change frequently, so treat this as a company and role map rather than a guarantee that every company has a fresher position available at the exact moment you read this. Current hiring directories list companies such as Zepto, Meesho, Razorpay, Groww, CRED, Swiggy, Whatfix, Porter, Purplle, Tata 1mg, CleverTap, Darwinbox and others with active openings.
Some of the Indian startups and startup-led technology companies with current or recent hiring activity include Zepto, Groww, Razorpay, Meesho, CRED, Swiggy, Zomato, PhonePe, Dream11, Postman, InMobi, Hasura, BrowserStack, Darwinbox, Whatfix, Porter, Purplle, Tata 1mg, CleverTap, Freshworks, Moglix, Rebel Foods, CarDekho and Unacademy.
Hiring spans:
The most important trend is specialization. Indian startups are increasingly hiring for people who can apply technical, analytical, product or creative skills to real business problems rather than simply listing tools or qualifications.
Zepto is one of India's most visible quick-commerce startups, and its careers page currently lists open positions while describing a culture built around speed, customer obsession, and first-principles thinking.
For candidates targeting Zepto, software engineering, product, analytics, operations, supply chain, and creative roles can be relevant depending on current openings. Engineers should prepare strong coding and system fundamentals, while product and business candidates should understand marketplaces, customer behaviour, logistics, and high-speed execution.
Groww operates in India's wealth and investing technology space and currently has engineering opportunities listed through its hiring ecosystem, including software development and React Native roles that indicate new graduates can be considered for some positions.
Candidates should understand financial products, user experience, data, and technology fundamentals depending on the role. For engineering positions, a strong GitHub or project portfolio can make your technical skills easier to evaluate.
Razorpay is hiring across a wide range of functions, with its careers page highlighting engineering, product, design, and AI-related work. Its current hiring approach explicitly includes role fit, collaboration, and an "AI Edge" focused on how candidates use AI in their workflows.
This makes Razorpay particularly relevant for candidates who can combine technical depth with practical execution. Engineers should show production-quality projects, while product and design candidates should demonstrate how they solve complex financial-product problems.
Meesho's careers platform currently separates opportunities across Product and Design, Engineering, and Data Science, while also highlighting internships and early-career opportunities.
Candidates should prepare for scale because marketplace businesses involve large numbers of users, sellers, products, transactions, and operational decisions. Data candidates should demonstrate analytical thinking, while product and design candidates should understand marketplace behaviour and customer experience.
CRED currently lists roles across engineering, product and growth, marketing, business development, content, and other functions. Its active openings include roles such as data scientist, machine learning engineer, web developer, copywriter, and growth positions.
CRED is especially interesting for candidates who want to work at the intersection of technology, finance, consumer products, and brand. Marketing candidates should be ready to show actual campaigns and copy, while technical candidates should demonstrate strong engineering or data projects.
Swiggy's careers platform covers technology, business, cloud kitchens, customer care, campus hiring, and corporate support functions.
For technology candidates, backend engineering, data, infrastructure, and application development can be strong areas to prepare for. Product, design, marketing, and business candidates should understand consumer behaviour and the operational complexity of food delivery and quick commerce.
Zomato remains one of India's major consumer technology companies, with hiring activity listed in current Indian startup job directories.
Candidates should understand marketplace economics, restaurants, customers, delivery operations, and consumer applications. A portfolio that demonstrates practical product, engineering, data, or marketing work can help you communicate your ability more clearly.
PhonePe operates across digital payments and financial services, creating opportunities for candidates interested in engineering, product, analytics, business, and financial technology.
Candidates applying here should understand that fintech products require more than attractive interfaces or basic coding. Security, reliability, data accuracy, user trust, and regulatory requirements are important parts of the product experience.
Dream11 operates in fantasy sports and consumer technology, making it relevant for candidates interested in high-scale applications, data, product, growth, and engineering.
Technical candidates should demonstrate their ability to work with data-heavy applications, while product and growth candidates should understand engagement, retention, experimentation, and responsible user experiences.
Postman is a major developer-focused technology company with roots in India and is relevant for engineers, developer relations professionals, product managers, designers, and technical writers.
If you want to work at a developer-focused startup, your portfolio should show that you understand developers as users. Building APIs, developer tools, technical documentation, or open-source projects can provide useful evidence.
InMobi operates in advertising and mobile technology, making it a strong option for candidates interested in adtech, AI, data, engineering, product, and business roles.
Candidates should understand how data and technology interact with advertising systems. Analytics projects involving customer segmentation, attribution, experimentation, or prediction can be useful preparation.
Hasura is a developer-focused technology company known for its work around APIs and GraphQL. It is particularly relevant for engineers who enjoy backend development, databases, APIs, cloud systems, and developer tools.
For this type of startup, a portfolio should focus on technical depth rather than visual presentation. Show architecture diagrams, GitHub repositories, APIs, documentation, performance decisions, and the problems your projects solve.
BrowserStack operates in software testing and developer infrastructure, creating opportunities for engineers and other technology professionals.
Candidates should understand testing, automation, cloud infrastructure, debugging, and developer workflows. A project that demonstrates automated testing or CI/CD can provide stronger evidence than simply listing testing tools on a resume.
Darwinbox builds enterprise HR technology and has appeared in current Indian startup hiring directories.
Because enterprise software serves business customers, product candidates should understand workflow design and B2B user needs, while engineers should focus on reliability, integrations, security, and scalable application architecture.
Whatfix works in the digital adoption and enterprise software space and currently appears among Indian startup companies with open positions.
Candidates interested in B2B SaaS should learn how enterprise products solve workflow problems. Product portfolios should show user research and workflow thinking, while engineers should demonstrate experience with APIs, integrations, cloud systems, or enterprise applications.
Porter operates in logistics and mobility, making it a useful target for candidates interested in technology, operations, analytics, product, and supply-chain problems.
A strong candidate should understand that logistics is not only an app problem. It involves real-world constraints such as demand, supply, routing, delivery time, utilisation, pricing, and operational efficiency.
HomeLane operates in home interiors and technology, combining design, sales, operations, and digital product experiences. It is listed among companies with current hiring activity in Indian startup job directories.
Designers can demonstrate visual design and customer experience work, while product and technology candidates should show how they improve complex customer journeys.
Purplle operates in beauty and e-commerce and currently appears among Indian startup companies with multiple open positions.
This can be a useful target for candidates interested in e-commerce, growth marketing, product, content, design, analytics, and technology. Candidates should understand online customer journeys, conversion, retention, merchandising, and digital marketing.
Tata 1mg operates in digital healthcare and has appeared in current startup hiring listings.
Healthcare technology requires strong attention to user trust, information accuracy, privacy, and customer experience. Candidates should show that they understand the responsibility involved in building products used for health-related decisions.
CleverTap works in customer engagement and marketing technology, making it relevant for software engineers, data professionals, product managers, marketers, and customer-facing technology roles.
A strong candidate should understand customer lifecycle concepts such as acquisition, activation, engagement, retention, and conversion. Data-driven marketing projects can be particularly useful for growth-oriented positions.
Freshworks is a major SaaS company with Indian roots and continues to appear in startup and technology hiring ecosystems.
Candidates interested in SaaS should learn how businesses evaluate software products. Product, engineering, customer success, sales, marketing, and design candidates should all be able to explain how their work creates value for business customers.
Moglix operates in B2B commerce and industrial supply, giving candidates exposure to a different type of e-commerce problem.
Product candidates should understand procurement workflows and business users, while engineers and data analysts should be comfortable with catalogues, search, inventory, transactions, and enterprise workflows.
Rebel Foods operates technology-enabled food brands and has appeared in current Indian startup hiring listings.
Candidates can explore roles around technology, product, operations, marketing, data, and brand. Creative candidates should be prepared to show campaigns and brand work, while product candidates should understand the relationship between digital ordering and physical operations.
CarDekho operates in automotive technology and digital commerce and appears in current startup hiring directories.
Candidates should understand the complexity of online automotive journeys, where customers may spend significant time researching products before making decisions. Product, UX, data, content, and technology projects related to comparison and discovery can be particularly relevant.
Unacademy operates in education technology and remains part of India's large startup ecosystem, with hiring activity appearing in current startup job listings.
Candidates interested in education technology should understand learner behaviour, content, engagement, retention, and digital learning experiences. Product designers and marketers can strengthen their portfolios by showing how they improve learning journeys rather than simply creating attractive screens or advertisements.
The biggest mistake candidates make is preparing for "startup jobs" as if startups all hire the same type of person. They do not. A fintech company, quick-commerce company, SaaS company, AI startup, and consumer marketplace can have completely different expectations even when the job title is identical.
For technology roles, focus on programming fundamentals, data structures, databases, APIs, cloud infrastructure, testing, system design, and practical AI usage. For product roles, build skills around user research, product metrics, prioritisation, experimentation, communication, and execution. For designers, focus on research, interaction design, visual systems, prototyping, usability testing, and detailed case studies. Marketing candidates should understand content, SEO, performance marketing, analytics, conversion, experimentation, and customer psychology.
The current startup market also shows a stronger demand for AI-related skills. Recent reporting on Indian hiring trends points to a growing need for specialised AI and technology talent, while startup hiring platforms show roles across engineering, product, design, sales, operations, and science.
Why It Matters: Startups usually have limited time and small teams, so they value people who can take ownership and produce useful work without needing every step explained to them. Showing that you can already solve problems independently can therefore make your application much stronger.
I recommend choosing five to ten companies from this list instead of sending applications to all 25. Study their product, understand the customer, read the job description carefully, and then create a small portfolio that matches the work they are hiring for.
For example, a developer applying to a fintech startup could build a small payment dashboard and explain its architecture. A product manager could analyse an existing financial application and propose improvements backed by user problems and metrics. A designer could redesign one important flow and explain the research and reasoning behind the changes. A growth marketer could create a complete acquisition campaign with landing-page copy, creative concepts, funnel metrics, and an experimentation plan.
This is where I believe proof of work portfolios become especially useful. A resume can tell a recruiter that you know React, Figma, SQL, SEO, or product management, but a project gives them something concrete to evaluate.
You can also learn how to get hired using assignments and portfolio projects, especially if you are trying to enter a startup without a long professional history. Assignment-based work gives you a way to demonstrate how you think and execute on problems that are closer to the actual job.
Why It Matters: The closer your portfolio is to the work you want to be hired for, the easier it becomes for a hiring manager to understand your potential contribution.
Freshers often assume that startups only hire candidates with previous startup experience, but that is not always true. Some companies have dedicated early-career or new-graduate opportunities, and current hiring platforms show roles where new graduates can be considered. Groww, for example, currently has software roles listed through Y Combinator where new graduates are explicitly accepted.
The more important question is what you can show when your professional experience is limited. College projects, internships, open-source contributions, freelance assignments, personal products, research projects, design challenges, and practical experiments can all become useful evidence when presented honestly.
If you have no experience, I recommend reading how to show proof of work with no experience. You do not need to pretend that a personal project was a client project. Instead, explain what you built, why you built it, what decisions you made, and what you learned.
You can then build a digital portfolio for jobs that brings your strongest work into one place. This makes your application more useful because recruiters can move from your claims to actual evidence without searching across multiple links.
Why It Matters: Your first job will eventually give you professional experience, but you do not have to wait for that job before you start demonstrating professional-level initiative.
The best startup to target depends on your function rather than the company's brand name.
Prioritize companies solving scale, infrastructure, API, marketplace, fintech or developer-tool problems.
Good targets include Zepto, Meesho, Razorpay, Postman, Hasura, BrowserStack, Groww and InMobi.

The Indian startup ecosystem is becoming more competitive, and candidates are competing with people who can learn tools, build projects, and apply for roles from almost anywhere. That means your ability to communicate what you can actually do becomes increasingly important.
I started Fueler around this exact problem. I kept seeing talented people struggle because their resumes could not communicate the quality of their work. At the same time, companies were trying to make hiring decisions from limited information. A portfolio cannot solve every hiring problem, but it can give both sides more evidence to work with.
Your portfolio should therefore be built around the job you want next. If you want to become a product designer, show product design. If you want to become a software engineer, show software. If you want to become a growth marketer, show campaigns and experiments. Your portfolio should make the answer to one question very clear: What can this person actually do?
You can also read why every professional needs a career portfolio to understand why this approach is becoming useful beyond traditional creative careers.
There are many opportunities across Indian startups hiring in 2026, but the best opportunity is not necessarily the company with the biggest name. It is the company where the role matches your skills, interests, learning goals, and ability to contribute.
The current hiring landscape includes large consumer startups such as Zepto, Swiggy, Meesho and Groww, technology companies such as Razorpay, Postman, Hasura and BrowserStack, and businesses across SaaS, fintech, e-commerce, logistics, healthcare, education and AI. Current startup hiring directories and Y Combinator's India hiring pages show that opportunities continue to span engineering, product, design, data, sales, marketing, operations, and other functions.
Do not approach this market by sending the same resume to every company. Pick the roles that fit you, understand what those companies need, and create evidence around the work. The candidates who can clearly connect their skills to real projects will have a much stronger story than candidates who only list tools and qualifications.
For me, that is the larger shift happening in hiring. The question is slowly moving from "What does your resume say?" to "What can you show me?"
And that is a much better question for talented people.
Several Indian startups and technology companies have active hiring activity in 2026, including Zepto, Groww, Razorpay, Meesho, CRED, Swiggy, Zomato, Whatfix, Porter, Purplle, Tata 1mg, CleverTap, Darwinbox, Freshworks, Moglix, Rebel Foods, CarDekho and Unacademy. Hiring status changes frequently, so candidates should verify the current opening before applying.
The skills depend on the role, but strong areas include software engineering, AI, data analytics, product management, UI UX design, growth marketing, communication, problem solving, and business understanding. Startups generally value candidates who can take ownership and apply their skills to practical problems rather than only listing certifications or tools.
Freshers should focus on internships, new-graduate roles, startup programmes, referrals, and targeted applications while building relevant projects. A strong portfolio can help compensate for limited professional experience by showing what you have already built or solved. Some current startup openings explicitly consider new graduates, although eligibility varies by role.
Start by building two or three strong technical projects that match the role you want. If you are targeting backend engineering, for example, build an application with APIs, authentication, databases, testing, and deployment rather than relying only on tutorial projects. Document your decisions and results so the recruiter can evaluate your actual technical ability.
Portfolios and projects can give startups additional evidence about a candidate's skills, especially for design, product, marketing, content, data, and engineering roles where practical work can be demonstrated. The strongest portfolio is not simply a collection of attractive work. It explains the problem, your contribution, decisions, execution, and outcome so that the hiring team can understand how you work.
