Top 3 Indie Games to look out for in 2025

Hello again fellow #Gamers and #Gaming Enthusiasts !!

Since my last post basically covered a generic idea on the opportunities of the gaming industry and the impact it could have on the current education system, it got me thinking. Is India actually making progress within the industry in which the Boomers so dedicatedly told us not to waste our efforts and time in? (Sorry boomers).

Time will only tell right. Well, true that but it got me curious and I started to dig deep.

Few years ago, I learned about this indie game called Raji: An Ancient Epic by the developers Nodding Heads Games, while I was doom scrolling reels. And it did not disappoint. The game was gripping in terms of storytelling and mechanics. They were even nominated for best debut game at The Game Awards 2020. But lost to Phasmophobia. That’s okay, right. For me, that puts things into perspective.

I came across some of these amazing works by our own creators who dared to dream and give the Indian Gaming community a feel of what an in-house production looks like and what it is capable of becoming. A big shoutout to all those creators and developers who are making it happen and are working tirelessly. Their efforts enable that same community to dream about opportunities whose days have been mostly inside small dark rooms and listening to the taunts of people who never really understood the passion behind all of it.

The landscape of Indian games look alive in the year 2025 and these are my top 3 I believe should be called out.

Mukti by underDOGS Studio is a groundbreaking first-person story exploration game set within the immersive environment of an Indian museum. Mukti delves deeply into a critical social issue that demands our attention: human trafficking. In Mukti, players embark on a journey of discovery as they navigate the labyrinthine corridors of the museum, uncovering the harrowing truths and hidden narratives behind the scourge of human trafficking. Through rich storytelling and immersive gameplay mechanics, Mukti invites players to confront the realities faced by victims and survivors alike, shedding light on this pressing global issue.

Never been a fan of the horror genre but even I could not, not check out this spine chilling teaser. The game tackles real social issues and sends a message through their gameplay and storytelling.

Siyah: Initiation by Gallic Entertainment is an alternate history game set during the Deccan Famine of 1630. The game follows Avni as she searches for her father amidst the famine caused by swarms destroying crops and spreading plague. Smriti investigates similar events in the 21st century, facing challenges and confronting her flaws.

This game reminded me of the first time I played Assassin’s Creed. The alternate timeline concept struck the nostalgic chord and the storyline seems captivating enough to try out this banger. Check out the trailer

Sojourn Past by ReDimension Games handcrafted 2D pixel action-adventure that blends fluid combat with lite bullet-hell mechanics. Master unique abilities like the teleportation dagger and bullet counter to overcome enemies and bosses.

Hailing from the North-eastern part of the country, the creators of this game came up with a pretty unique concept. Unlike other developers who are making the same type of battle royale fighting game which you can find in Playstore, the music and visuals complement the vibe of the game. The demo is out for grabs on Steam earlier this year. Check out their awesome trailer.

There are so many others I want to mention but you got jobs to go back to I understand. Many creators don’t get to share their stories due to reasons I will be talking about in my next post. Till then, which games do you think should make it to your list? Let’s connect or let me know in the comments?
