Geopulse

An interactive data visualization platform analyzing India's fertility decline and demographic sustainability at the state level. GeoPulse combines NFHS-5 survey data, World Bank statistics, and Kaggle datasets to reveal that 31 of 36 Indian states have already fallen below the population replacement threshold — challenging the common narrative of India as an overpopulated, still-growing nation.

Key features:

  • Interactive India map — click any state to explore its Regional Sustainability Index (RSI), Total Fertility Rate (TFR), GDP per capita, and population, with toggleable data views
  • Custom RSI metric — a composite score (35% population health, 30% economic vitality, 20% social development, 15% geopolitical stability) used to rank all 36 states from "Thriving" to "Critical"
  • Game-theory framework — applies signaling games, prisoner's dilemma, and coordination-problem models to explain why fertility is collapsing (mating market breakdown, parenthood "defection," the dependency trap)
  • Data-driven findings — highlights like Kerala/Tamil Nadu's surprising fertility rebound, Maharashtra's "wealth without sustainability" paradox, and Nagaland/Ladakh's one-generation fertility collapse
  • 7 data visualizations comparing India's states against each other and against global cases like South Korea, Japan, Germany, and Israel
  • Global context module — positions India's current TFR (1.98) at the same inflection point South Korea was at just before its fertility collapse accelerated
