DCT EATS The World!

DCT EATS The World! is an international food and travel series featuring around 44 videos, covering food adventures, restaurants, challenges, and travel experiences across the USA and Canada.

This was much more than an individual video editing project for me. I worked on the complete series, from creating its branding, logo, intro, and launch trailer to editing the full-length episodes and developing a consistent visual style throughout.

Working on a project of this scale helped me understand how to build a complete content series, rather than treating every video as a separate project.

01. Giving the Series Its Own Identity

Building something viewers can recognise.

One of my key contributions was developing the visual identity of DCT EATS The World!.

I worked on the series logo, branding elements, and overall presentation to give the content a distinct identity that could carry across different destinations and episodes.

This taught me how important consistent branding is when working on a long-running content series. Every visual element needed to feel connected, even when the locations and stories changed.

02. Creating the First Impression

The intro and trailer that set everything in motion.

Along with the branding, I created the series intro and trailer to establish the energy and excitement of the journey.

I focused on selecting impactful moments, matching cuts with music, building momentum, and bringing together different experiences to communicate what the series was about.

It helped me understand how to introduce an entire series through a short, engaging edit that creates excitement for what's coming next.

03. Editing Across Countries and Experiences

One series, completely different stories.

The series involved everything from exploring Chicago's food scene and visiting the five-storey Starbucks Reserve to Canadian food challenges, restaurant reviews, and unexpected travel experiences.

Each episode brought a different editing challenge. Some needed fast-paced storytelling, while others required a more relaxed, experience-driven approach.

I learned how to adapt my editing style to the content while keeping the overall personality of DCT EATS consistent.

04. Experimenting With Visual Storytelling

Finding creative ways to show more than just footage.

Throughout the series, I experimented with different visual treatments, including food cutouts, location graphics, floor labels, and wider restaurant compositions.

For example, the Starbucks Reserve episode involved visually explaining its multiple floors, while restaurant segments required balancing food, surroundings, and people within the frame.

These experiences helped me improve my understanding of visual composition and how graphics can make travel stories more interesting and easier to follow.

05. Managing the Bigger Picture

Thinking beyond a single video.

Working on a series of around 44 videos taught me how to approach content on a larger scale.

From branding and promotional content to individual episodes, I had to maintain consistency while adapting to different footage, destinations, and storytelling needs.

Over time, I developed a better understanding of how different creative elements come together to make an entire series feel complete, organised, and recognisable.

What This Project Taught Me

This project helped me grow beyond simply editing videos.

I learned how to develop a series identity, create promotional content, handle different storytelling formats, and maintain a consistent creative direction across a large collection of episodes.

My biggest learning was understanding how to build a complete video series from the ground up, bringing branding, storytelling, editing, and visual presentation together into one cohesive experience.
