Branding and Merchandise Design - UFO

UFO – Unity Fashion Operation

Category: Branding | Merchandise Design | Visual Identity
Project Type: Academic Concept Turned Real-World Product
Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma

Project Overview

UFO (Unity Fashion Operation) began as a fictional brand concept developed for a college graphic design assignment. The idea quickly evolved beyond the classroom when I brought the designs to life as real merchandise, creating a niche, culturally-specific line for NIT Bhopal students.

Brand Concept

UFO was imagined as a quirky college-focused merchandise brand, built around culturally relevant references and inside jokes unique to individual campuses. The goal was to create a brand identity that felt fun, familiar, and hyper-personal to students.

Logo & Typography:
The brand identity featured a simple, playful UFO icon paired with fluid, freeform typography to reflect a youthful and offbeat vibe.

Color Palette:
The primary color was light purple, set against a deep purple-almost black background, with vibrant red and yellow accents to create a visually bold and engaging aesthetic.

Product Design

T-Shirt Design:

A black tee with a central graphic on the back.

The graphic combined concentric mandala patterns with circuit board-inspired elements, symbolizing both tradition and tech.

Around the edges, custom quotes and references specific to NIT Bhopal were integrated.

At the center was the college logo, with “MANIT Est. 1969” above and below in a thick, stylized typeface featuring mandala detailing.

Button Badges:

A set of five unique badge designs, each centered around campus-specific humor and references.

These featured vibrant color schemes and quirky vector graphics, designed to resonate with NIT students and evoke a sense of shared community.

Marketing & Collateral

Designed an 18-post Instagram grid carousel, where each post worked independently but also formed a cohesive, continuous visual across the brand’s profile feed.

Created flex banners, promotional mockups, and printable media for both digital and physical brand presence.

Additional assets included a business card and branding mockups to visualize the identity system in real-world applications.

Outcome

What started as a classroom brief evolved into a tangible and well-received micro-brand. UFO not only demonstrated the power of design in creating cultural connection, but also gave me hands-on experience in building a brand from concept to execution.
