Four years ago, we started building Fueler from a small town called Agartala, Tripura. The problem was very clear: that talented people were getting rejected from jobs not because they lacked skills, but because they couldn't showcase their work properly.
I knew we had to build something different. A platform where people could prove their skills through real projects, not just resumes and certificates.
But here's what most people don't know about building a startup from a small town: Your state government might be your biggest supporter during the initial stage.
I'm Riten, founder of Fueler, a platform that helps freelancers and professionals get hired through their work samples
When we started Fueler, we had passion, an idea and the MVP, but limited resources. That's when we discovered something incredible. The Tripura Government, through DIT Agartala, had introduced policies specifically designed to support new startups in our state.
Yes, you will have to figure out a lot of things by yourself, but there are help is available around you that you need to figure out yourself.
Programs like the Startup Tripura Scheme and NGIN for student entrepreneurs were actively helping founders like me in Tripura.
This support made a massive difference. Today, Fueler has helped over 5,000 people land jobs, internships, and freelance gigs. More than 1,000 professionals from Northeast India have become digitally aware, learned new skills, and created their portfolios through our platform.
And honestly, we couldn't have done a lot of thing without the support of our state government. The govermant helps you with exposure like participation in exhibitions, state events, investor summits and lot more productive opportunities only if you are actively seeking for it.
Most founders from small towns never reach out to their government. They think governments are too busy or won't care about their small startup.
When you build a startup, you're not just helping yourself. You're helping your entire community and society. More startups mean more jobs, which leads to a stronger economy.
If you don't ask, the answer is always NO.
Reach out to your state government. Talk to the departments handling startups and entrepreneurship. Tell them about your idea, your vision, and how you want to contribute to your state's growth.
You'll be surprised by how willing they are to help.
Here's what's even more exciting about Tripura's startup scene
The ecosystem is changing. With the right support, internet access, and determination, you can build a world-class product from anywhere.
If you're building something in a small town, don't think your location is a limitation. Your state government wants local success stories. They want startups that create impact.
Take advantage of the schemes and programs available. Connect with other founders in your city. Build in public and share your journey.
Thank you to the Government of Tripura and DIT Agartala for believing in local entrepreneurs and creating an environment where startups can grow and thrive.
