If we look at the earth from space we can see that ¾ of the earth is blue thanks to water.A major portion of the fourth quarter is green. This green is the contribution of all the plants and trees around us. And we all know how important this green is in sustaining life on planet earth.Plants are like living chemistry labs, they contain in them all sorts of biological molecules which have unlimited applications, especially in the medical field. We have barely scratched the surface of the abundant resources they hold.
Many researches and experiments are being conducted all over the world to find and unlock the hidden medical properties of plants. Antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, diuretic, stimulants, sedation etc..are some of the medical properties of plants.
Plants with antimicrobial properties like garlic, oregano, golden seal, ginger, tea tree, cranberry, echinacea etc contain compounds that can kill or inhibit the growth of microbes like bacteria, fungus and virus.
Plants like rosemary, ginger, turmeric, licorice, willow bark, chamomile, bosewellia etc have anti-inflammatory properties.
If we are looking for analgesic compounds it can be seen in plants like clove, ginger, cannabis, valeriana, turmeric, white willow bark, peppermint etc are examples.
These plants are the ones we know, there are many more plants we still haven't explored. It was with the knowledge about all these plants that the traditional system of medicine ayurveda developed in India. Similar to this many other regions also has their own treatments using the plants found there.
