About TISS: In 1936, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust established the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work, Asia's oldest institute for professional social work education. Founded with just 20 students under the visionary leadership of Dr. Clifford Manshardt, the institute aimed to address the pressing social challenges of a nation on the brink of transformation. Renamed the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in 1944, it symbolizes an expanded role in social research, policy formulation, and action. Currently, TISS comprises 19 schools, 5 centers, and offers 69 programs.

About the Program: In 1967, TISS’s specialization in Labour Welfare and Industrial Relations evolved into an independent Master’s degree in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations (PM & IR) to meet India’s industrial growth needs. Renamed the M.A. in Human Resource Management & Labour Relations (HRM & LR) in the 2000s, the program blends strategic HR, talent management, and organizational behavior with practical industry insights.
