Documentary of Lee Hyeon-seo

While working with SR PAY STORIES, I was assigned to script the life documentary of Lee Hyeon-seo, the North Korean defector and human rights activist. To do justice to her remarkable journey, I began with deep research using multiple sources — books, her memoir “The Girl with Seven Names”, online articles, and her TED Talk. I cross-verified events and timelines to ensure authenticity.

For the writing process, I structured the script like a cinematic narrative, starting from her childhood in North Korea, to her daring escape into China, and finally her transformation into a global activist. I used tools like Google Scholar, Wikipedia cross-references, interviews available on YouTube, and detailed note-taking in Notion & Docs to organize every fact. The scripting part was refined through storyboarding techniques, ensuring smooth pacing and strong emotional beats.

This project sharpened my storytelling skills, blending factual accuracy with emotional depth. Every line was carefully crafted to make the audience not only understand her struggle but also feel it. Through this experience, I learned how to balance research-heavy content with engaging narration, and how to adapt real-life stories into compelling scripts.
