Kohli's selection dilemma

Kohli’s T20 World Cup Dilemma: Kohli doesn’t meet Agarkar’s expectations.

Selectors' dilemma for team selection

The Indian team’s selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup has become the subject of intense debate and questions. As we know, the T20 is just a few months away, and selectors still have not selected India’s 15-member team. There is only one IPL before the T20 World Cup, which will be the main factor for every player to prove their worth to the T20 World Cup team.

Doubt on the selection of Virat and Kohli

If we talk about one of the veteran faces of Indian cricket (Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli), even their selection is still not clear.

Over the last around 15 months, both were missing from the T20 squad, even in bilateral series where many young players got chances to prove themselves for the Indian national team, but there were many questions on Rohit and Virat about whether they would play or whether they would never play for the T20. In a series against Afghanistan, selectors selected both of them, and they both got chances to play against Afghanistan, where Rohit hit his fifth T20 century, but Kohli could not impress the selector because of his poor runs.

Good news for Indian Cricket fans

After the BCCI announced that Rohit Sharma would be the Indian captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which was great news for every Indian cricket fan, we are still not clear about the availability of Virendra Kohli in the T20 World Cup.

Rohit impressed selectors in the last ODI World Cup with his exceptional number of six-hit innings, but Virat played his anchor role in the ODI World Cup as usual, which can be a driving factor in his selection.

As we know, this T20 World Cup will be held in the West Indies, near a stadium. In West India, pitches are generally slow, and it will not be easy to hit six on such pitches; hence, players like Virat Kohli will be extremely beneficial.

Agarkar communicated with Kohli during his batting game.

According to a report by The Telegraph, India’s veteran player, Ajit Agarkar, suggested he change his batting approach. Agarkar suggested that he play more aggressively rather than in an anchor role.

After that, Virat Kohli tried to change his approach against Afghanistan, but his highest score was 29 runs, which doesn’t discredit his ability.

Some reports say selectors doubt Kohli’s success on slow West Indies pitches and anticipate his natural batting approach won’t thrive there.

Alternatives to Virat Kohli

There is another burning question for every cricket fan: if Virat doesn’t play, who will replace him? Many other players can play in the middle order, like Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, and India’s new finisher Rinku Singh. Another pair of alternatives is KL Rahul and Sanju Samson, but any of them can fill that blank in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be created after the absence of Virat Kohli.
But doors are not completely closed for Virat because if he performs well in IPL, there is still hope for his selection, and with his better performance in IPL, he can shut all critics mouths.
But Virat was not available in the IND vs. ENG test series because of his newborn son, Ayka, and he hasn’t joined RCB’s squad, which creates a dilemma in everyone’s mind about his presence.
