Starting a business in India usually comes with a harsh reality check: you have a great idea, but you lack capital, supply chain connections, or the speed needed to outpace the market. Most founders end up burning their first couple of years just trying to figure out compliance, finding reliable vendors, or learning how to run performance marketing.
The Foundery was built to destroy that friction completely.
Conceptualized by Nikhil Kamath (Co-founder, Zerodha & WTFund) and Kishore Biyani (Founder, Future Group), alongside retail veteran Ronnie Screwvala (Founder, UpGrad), The Foundery isn't another online video course or a passive weekend incubator. It is a high-intensity, 90-day residential venture builder based in Alibaug, Maharashtra, designed to engineer venture-backed consumer brands from day zero.
I’m Riten, founder of Fueler, a skills-first portfolio platform building the career infrastructure for 100 million creative professionals. Fueler connects talented individuals with companies through assignments, portfolios, and projects, not just resumes or CVs. Think of it as Dribbble/Behance for work samples combined with AngelList for hiring infrastructure.
If you are thinking of applying, you likely have dozens of questions about how it operates, equity math, living conditions, selection criteria, and post-program support. Below is the ultimate, non-BS breakdown answering every single question an applicant needs to know.
The Foundery is a joint initiative by WTF Media and Think9 Consumer Technologies. It operates as a venture builder often referred to as a "co-founder factory" where selected individuals come together on a physical campus to validate ideas, build supply chains, create brand identity, launch products, and raise institutional seed capital within 90 days.
The core visionaries leading the charge are:
Anyone who has completed 18 years of age (as of December 15, 2025) and possesses a strong bias for action. Whether you are a college dropout, a product designer, an agency marketer, a second-time entrepreneur, or a mid-career corporate executive looking to build something tangible, you are eligible.
No. You do not need a pre-packaged business idea or a 40-page pitch deck. Selection is based entirely on your execution mindset, problem-solving skills, resilience, and domain experience. If you don't have an idea, you get access to The Foundery's internal Idea Vault, a curated pool of high-potential, underserved consumer categories researched by their domain teams.
You are welcome to submit your idea during the application process. The evaluation panel will test the thesis alongside you. If your idea holds strong potential, you will build it. If it has structural flaws, they will help you pivot or match you with a better opportunity from the Idea Vault.
To understand who gets in, look at the benchmark set by Cohort 01:
Applicants must pay a non-refundable registration fee of ₹5,000 + GST. This fee was deliberately introduced to filter out casual browsers and ensure that only serious applicants enter the selection funnel.
Unselected bootcamp candidates remain part of The Foundery Ecosystem. Many stay connected for potential roles in portfolio companies, future cohorts, and partner venture builds.
Startups built inside the program receive up to ₹4 Crore (approx. $500,000) in initial seed funding. This capital covers product manufacturing, inventory, branding, initial performance marketing, and operational expenses.
Selected co-founders retain up to 25% equity in the company they help create.
Why isn't it 80-90%?
Because The Foundery isn't just giving advice; they are putting up 100% of the initial capital, absorbing financial risk, providing shared operating teams (AI, creative, tech, performance marketing), securing manufacturer access, and guaranteeing investor connections at Demo Day. You go from an individual with zero capital to a venture-funded co-founder owning up to a quarter of a well-capitalized company on Day 1.
The 90-day sprint culminates in The Foundery FWD, an annual investor showcase in Mumbai.
To put its scale into perspective: The inaugural Cohort 01 Demo Day brought together 220+ top-tier venture capital investors and family offices. It generated over ₹550 Crore in non-binding expressions of investment interest across 18 companies, reflecting an indicated portfolio valuation exceeding ₹1,400 Crore.
Founders live and work at The Foundery Sanctum, a 3-acre, high-performance residential campus in Alibaug, Maharashtra.
The Sanctum is designed to eliminate every day-to-day distraction:
Yes. While the residency is an intense 90-day sprint, it follows a "Sprint and Recovery" model. Founders can travel home for brief breaks, provided it doesn't conflict with critical build milestones or mentor sessions. Family members are also allowed to visit The Sanctum to see what you are building.
Inside The Build Room, you aren't listening to passive lectures. You operate alongside dedicated specialists across three core pillars:
Rather than traditional professors, you work directly with active operators and Indian industry titans, including:
When thousands of candidates apply for 30 seats, polished resumes and generic cover letters get tossed immediately. The selection committee looks for proof of execution.
Yes, you can apply while working. However, if selected for the 90-day residential program in Alibaug, you must commit full-time and relocate to campus for the entire duration.
Yes, accommodation, meals, high-speed internet, fitness access, and campus facilities are fully provided by The Foundery so you can focus entirely on building your company.
Failure is part of validation. If an idea fails early, you pivot with mentor support, join another high-potential internal venture, or stay connected to The Foundery ecosystem.
The newly formed startup entity owns all intellectual property, product designs, and brand assets created during the program, with co-founders holding up to 25% equity in the company.
