Mumbai has always been a major business city, but its startup ecosystem has grown far beyond traditional finance and media.
Today, Mumbai is home to fintech companies, AI startups, SaaS businesses, consumer brands, creator platforms, cybersecurity companies, real estate technology companies, and many early-stage businesses.
For someone looking for startup jobs Mumbai, this creates a lot of opportunities.
But startup hiring works differently from traditional corporate hiring. A startup may want a developer who can work across the product, a designer who understands user behaviour, or a marketer who can create a campaign and measure its results.
I’m Riten, founder of Fueler, a skills-first portfolio platform that helps companies hire through assignments, portfolios, and real projects instead of relying only on resumes.
I have seen how difficult it can be for talented people to show what they can actually do. That is why I believe your work should become part of your job application.
I looked at current public startup job listings and hiring pages to create this directory of 25 Mumbai startups hiring designers, developers, marketers, and related talent in 2026. Hiring changes quickly, so always check the current opening before applying. Y Combinator's Mumbai job directory also shows active opportunities across engineering, design, product, marketing, sales, operations, and other functions.

I would not choose a startup only because its name looks impressive.
Before applying, ask yourself three questions.
If you are a designer, do not apply only because the startup is popular.
If you are a developer, check whether the technology matches what you want to learn.
If you are a marketer, understand whether the role is content, performance, growth, brand, or community focused.
This is where your portfolio becomes important.
A resume can say:
"Experienced performance marketer."
A portfolio can show:
"I managed this campaign, changed this landing page, and increased qualified leads by X%."
The second statement is much easier for a hiring manager to evaluate.
Startups can give you broader responsibility than large companies.
You may work directly with founders.
You may own a feature.
You may run a complete marketing campaign.
You may design an entire product flow.
That experience can become extremely valuable later in your career.
I strongly believe candidates should stop treating portfolios as something only designers need.
Developers, marketers, product managers, writers, analysts, and sales professionals can all show their work.
I recently wrote about proof of work portfolios, and the basic idea is simple: show real work instead of only claiming that you have a skill. A marketer can show campaigns, a designer can show product work, and a developer can show products they built.
If you are building your portfolio from scratch, this guide on how to build a career portfolio that actually gets jobs can help you decide what to include.
You should also understand proof of work in hiring, especially if you are applying to smaller startups where practical ability can matter a lot.
If you are a fresher and think you have nothing to show, I would challenge that idea. College projects, personal projects, assignments, internships, and self-initiated work can all become evidence. I have written about how to show proof of work with no experience for exactly this reason.
And if a startup gives you an assignment during the hiring process, treat it seriously. Assignment-based hiring gives companies a way to evaluate how candidates actually approach a problem instead of relying only on interview answers.
I would use a simple process.
Decide whether you are targeting:
Do not apply to everything.
You do not need 20 projects.
Three relevant projects with clear explanations are better than 20 unfinished ones.
Understand what the company sells, who its customers are, and what problem it solves.
Change the projects you highlight based on the role.
A developer applying to an AI startup should highlight AI or backend work.
A marketer applying to a consumer startup should highlight growth and campaign work.
A designer applying to a SaaS startup should highlight product design.
Give recruiters one simple place where they can see what you have built.
That is where a good portfolio can save time for both sides.
Mumbai has a large startup ecosystem, but finding the right startup job is not about applying to every company you can find.
It is about finding the right match between your skills and the company's current problem.
If you are a developer, focus on companies where your technical skills can solve real product problems.
If you are a designer, look for startups where design is connected to product and user experience.
If you are a marketer, look for companies where you can directly influence growth, acquisition, brand, or community.
And whatever role you choose, show your work.
That is the biggest lesson I have learned while building Fueler.
A resume tells a company what you say you can do.
A portfolio gives them something they can actually look at.
For candidates searching for startup jobs Mumbai has to offer in 2026, I would spend less time trying to sound impressive and more time becoming easy to trust.
Build something.
Document it.
Show the result.
Then apply.
