Editors often get exploited these days. I once had someone ask me for a sample edit , they even got on a video call, shared their screen, explained the requirements in detail, and made a lot of promises. After I delivered the test edit, they simply ghosted me with a vague “I’ll get back to you.”
That’s why I strongly advise against doing free trial edits. Always charge at least a minimal fee for test work, and let the client know that if the full project goes ahead, this amount will be adjusted or refunded. It’s a way to ensure your time and effort aren’t wasted , because unfortunately, many clients don’t think twice about using your resources without any commitment.
