As part of the application process for a senior creative writing role at Saasflash, I submitted this assignment. This involved a concept-to-script treatment for short-form content tailored for founders and startup operators.
Before jumping into ideas, I began by deeply immersing myself in Saasflash’s content ecosystem — primarily through their Instagram. My aim was to identify their core content pillars, brand voice, and the formats that resonated most with their audience.
I carefully analyzed their existing videos and posts, mapping patterns across:
- Recurring themes (e.g. tech x culture, startup mindsets, founder POVs)
- Tone of voice (friendly, sharp, non-fluffy)
- Audience engagement markers (posts with high comments/saves/shares)
This helped me pinpoint what works for them: content that’s smart, pop-culture adjacent, and maintains clarity with its audience — especially when it involves tech news or startup drama.
I led with one high-engagement topic. I noticed on their page, they hit the sweet spot between tech-savvy and pop-culture relevance. This became the foundation for my full script submission.
For that idea:
I wrote out my full thought process: why I picked it, the insight I wanted to highlight, and my take on it
Then drafted a first version.
Refined it into a final “cooked” script with visual direction, formatted exactly as they outlined — treating each line like a storyboard
Once the main script was done, I returned to ideation mode and developed two more ideas:
One topical, one timeless, per the brief.
Both were not just listed as blurbs but also included mini-script versions with visual suggestions.,
Even at the idea level, I ensured POV and structure were reflected clearly.
