Redesigned thumbnail for "Guru Nanak Jayanti"

Part 1: Carousel review

I personally liked the colours used in the posters, they are complimenting each other. And the texts are readable. Things I would like to change are the text size (they are too big), and I would to add a few more graphics or I would say give them more space in the area.

Part 2: Thumbnail design

Objective:
My goal was to redesign the Guru Nanak Jayanti thumbnail while retaining the overall orientation and structure of the provided reference. I wanted to infuse a more artistic and traditional feel, highlighting the spiritual tone of the occasion while also making the event information clear and visually engaging.

Time Required:
It took me a day to complete this design — around 4 to 6 hours of work, including sourcing elements, designing, and refining the layout.

Tools Used:

  • Adobe Illustrator: I used this as my main design tool to create the layout, customize the elements, and bring everything together with a balanced colour palette and clean typography.
  • Freepik: I sourced design elements from Freepik, like the Guru Nanak illustration and decorative motifs. I customized these to match the overall theme and enhance visual impact.

Conclusion:
My version brings in a more illustrated and serene feel, while still aligning with the layout structure such as the event block placement, headline positioning, and bottom session message. I kept the visual hierarchy intact but added more traditional and hand-drawn aesthetics. The result is a subtle, festive, and informative piece that stands out while staying true to the original intent.
