Elon Musk taught himself how to build reusable rockets, autonomous cars, and brain chips. But how did he do this?

9 years ago, he posted his secret about how he learns anything on Reddit

  1. He always thinks about first principles and makes sure he understands the fundamental of anything. For instance, a standard way of making bread is by taking flour, yeast and water, mixing it up, putting it in the oven and letting it rise.
  2. But Elon would have done it in a completely different way. By thinking fundamentally, he would have learnt things like wheat cultivations, soil types, cold storage, supply chain, yeast biology, fermentation, thermodynamics, baking style and more, which would help him bake the perfect bread and even create new recipes with it.
  3. Unlike other car companies, Tesla covers every aspect of the car business, they make their own batteries, chips, electronics, software, charging stations, AI and even financing and insurance. They cover every aspect of the car business end to end, which makes it 19 startups instead of just 1.
  4. When you think about things fundamentally you get to learn about so many things that can be applied to other facets of life as well.
  5. For instance, Steve Jobs understood so much about design and technology that it helped Apple build diverse products like Macbook, iPhone, Airpods & Now Vision Pro.
  6. Same goes for Mr Beast who is the most followed person on the internet as he understands attention, storylines, plots & social algorithms.

Direction

Watch the inspiration videos above.

Ask yourself ‘How can I copy the editing and design style very effectively?’ Copying effectively = very similar animations, very similar colour scheme, very similar transitions.

Whatever can be made similar to the inspiration clip should be made similar.

  • Use animation to explain the examples of making flour, Tesla, Apple and Mr. Beast.
    • Use graphics and text overlays to emphasize key points like ‘thinking fundamentally’.
  • Select stock videos that goes well together and fits the design style and colors chosen. Apply appropriate color grading to set the mood and tone of the video.
    • Maintain consistency in terms of fonts, colors, and graphics throughout the video. This can make the video look more professional and cohesive.
  • Use smooth transitions between different points or while juggling between examples of Apple, Mr. Beast and making flour.
    • You can use cutaways to provide visual relief or additional context to the viewer between examples.
  • Use background music that matches the tone of the content. Also, ensure the voiceover is clear and audible. Sound effects can be used sparingly to emphasize points.
