About Scaler School of Business (SSB)

Scaler School of Business (SSB) is an 18-month, full-time postgraduate program in Management & Technology. Built inside a startup and operator ecosystem, SSB doesn’t teach business from PowerPoints. We teach business by building ventures, solving real-world problems, and running revenue-generating projects.

Think of it as a business school designed like a startup accelerator, high ownership, industry-led learning, and a hands-on curriculum built by operators from Meta, Uber, Myntra, Google, McKinsey & Coinbase.

Assignment

You will design two different types of creatives:

TASK 1 - PERFORMANCE ADS

You have to design Performance Ads

Goal: Drive leads and build trust via digital ads

You have to design 1 USP-Led Performance Ad

  • Highlight SSB value proposition
  • Designer must convert copy → compelling ad creative
  • Size: 1080×1080
  • Platform: Meta/Instagram

Context: The Hustle: D2C Challenge

To put our philosophy — business is learnt by building it — into action, every student at Scaler School of Business was divided into 10 teams and given a single mandate:

Build a real business from scratch.

Each team had to:

  • Identify a problem
  • Source or create a product
  • Design branding and packaging
  • Price it for real customers
  • Take it to market
  • And most importantly — generate revenue
     

This wasn’t a classroom exercise. Every decision, every iteration, every mistake cost time, money, and opportunity — exactly like the real world.

The challenge was guided by industry mentors, operators, and founders, ensuring that students didn’t just learn concepts — they applied them like professionals.

 

The D2C Bazaar

The challenge culminated in a live marketplace — the SSB D2C Bazaar — hosted at Nexus Mall, Koramangala.
For 48 hours, all 10 student-built brands competed and collaborated in the open market, selling directly to real customers.

What happened next was proof of the model:

In just 48 hours, students earned ₹5 Lakhs in revenue,
actual sales, from products they conceptualised, sourced, branded, and sold themselves.

Context / Why This Event Exists

In a world obsessed with performance marketing, funnels, and paid acquisition, some brands are doing the exact opposite — they’re building businesses the old-school way:

  • By crafting an experience people want to belong to
  • By creating spaces that feel like a vibe, not a venue
  • By turning customers into communities
  • By letting aesthetics do the first pitch and the product close the deal
     

This is the story of Bengaluru’s newest cult coffee houses —
Kahale, Katha Kavana, and Katte Kulture

 

What the Event Will Cover

A roundtable conversation where founders decode:

  • How aesthetics became their marketing engine
  • How ambience, communication, and brand identity became their CAC
  • Why cafe design matters as much as the coffee
  • How community-led growth beats paid growth
  • The formula: Creativity → Culture → Community → Commerce
     

Event Objective

To understand:

  • How brands today are built beyond ads
  • How design is not decoration — it's differentiation
  • Why storytelling precedes scaling
  • How community can become the cheapest yet the strongest GTM

 

Submission Requirements

Your final submission must include:

  • All creatives
  • A brief PDF rationale
  • Fonts & colours used (optional but appreciated)

 

What We Are Really Testing

This assignment evaluates:

  • Can you simplify complex messaging?
  • Can you design for conversion, not just beauty?
  • Can you blend brand + performance + community energy?
  • Are you someone who understands business intent and not just aesthetics?


Assignment Guidelines / Rules

1. Creative Freedom with Guardrails
We will provide directional copy for each brief.
You are free to:

  • Improve or rephrase the copy
  • Add headlines or taglines
  • Use layouts/elements that make the communication stronger

Your decisions must be intentional.

2. Brand Study Expected
 Before designing, explore:

  • Scaler website
  • Scaler School of Business social handles
  • Paid ads of ours and competitors ( from meta library)
  • Our tone, colours, visual identity & narrative

We are evaluating thinking + craft, not just decoration.

3. Output Format

  • Static creatives only (JPEG/PNG)
  • Size will be given per task
  • Add a separate PDF explaining:
    • Why this layout?
    • Who is the target audience?
    • Your headline choice rationale
    • What emotion/action do you expect from the audience?
     

Your design + reasoning = your score.

 We will assess:

  • Understanding of brand
  • Visual hierarchy and typography
  • Messaging clarity
  • Ability to design for performance vs awareness
  • Originality & attention to detail
  • Understanding of audience intent
