Something historic recently happened in the startup ecosystem of Northeast India. Tripura launched India’s first State Innovation Mission called T-NEST (Tripura Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Startups). For founders and builders from the region, it was much more than that. It was a signal that innovation from smaller states is finally getting the attention it deserves.
What made this moment even more special for me was that Fueler was invited to the launch event.
For a startup that started from Agartala with a small team and big dreams, being present at such an important milestone for the state felt incredibly amazing. It was not just about attending an event. It was about representing a new generation of entrepreneurs from Tripura.
In this article, I want to share why Fueler being invited to the T-NEST launch event was such an important moment for us and what it means for the future of startups in Tripura and the Northeast.
I grew up in Agartala, Tripura, and like many people from smaller cities, I saw how limited the startup ecosystem used to be here. If someone wanted to build a startup, the usual path was to move to cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, or Delhi. The reason was simple, that is where the infrastructure existed.
There were investors, mentors, accelerators, startup events, and communities that supported founders. In comparison, smaller states had talented people but fewer resources.
When I started building Fueler, we did not have access to big networks or startup infrastructure. We were learning everything from the internet, working with people remotely, and figuring things out step by step. So when I received the invitation to attend the launch of T-NEST in Tripura, it felt like a full-circle moment. It showed that the ecosystem in my home state is slowly evolving.
T-NEST stands for Tripura Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Startups. It is an innovation and incubation initiative launched under the State Innovation Mission with support from the Atal Innovation Mission under NITI Aayog.
The mission aims to create a structured ecosystem that supports innovators, students, entrepreneurs, and early-stage startups in the state.
The main goals of T-NEST include:
One of the biggest challenges founders face is the early stage of building a startup. During this phase, founders need mentorship, resources, and guidance to turn their ideas into real products.
T-NEST aims to support these early-stage startups through incubation programs, mentoring networks, and innovation infrastructure. This makes it easier for founders to experiment and build without feeling completely alone in the journey.
For states like Tripura, this kind of structured support can significantly increase the number of new startups.
Startup ecosystems do not grow overnight. They require infrastructure, programs, mentors, and community support.
The State Innovation Mission aims to create a long term system where innovation becomes a regular part of the culture. Students, researchers, and professionals will have opportunities to explore entrepreneurship and build solutions for real problems.
When ecosystems like this are built locally, more young people feel confident about starting companies.
Innovation does not only happen in big tech companies. Many important ideas come from people who are solving everyday problems in their communities.
T-NEST plans to support grassroots innovators through initiatives like the District Innovator Fellowship. These programs help innovators develop prototypes, improve their ideas, and connect with larger innovation networks.
This approach ensures that innovation reaches beyond cities and campuses.
Being invited to the T-NEST launch event was a proud moment for Team Fueler.
Fueler started from Agartala, and today we are building a portfolio platform that helps companies hire through assignments and proof of work. The idea behind Fueler is simple.
Traditional hiring often depends heavily on resumes, degrees, and interviews. But the real test of someone's skills is their work. That is why Fueler focuses on proof of work portfolios, where individuals can showcase their projects and get discovered by companies.
Fueler is building infrastructure for the future of work where skills, projects, and real outcomes matter more than credentials.
Representing Agartala at an event that focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship felt like a strong signal that the region is starting to produce builders who are thinking globally.
The launch of the Tripura State Innovation Mission is important not just for the state but for the entire Northeast region. For many years, the biggest challenge for founders here was access to ecosystem support. With the launch of T-NEST, the state is trying to create a structured system that encourages entrepreneurship. This initiative can create several long-term benefits.
When students see innovation programs and startup incubators in their own state, entrepreneurship becomes a more realistic career path.
Instead of thinking that startups can only be built in metro cities, students can start experimenting with ideas locally. Over time, this can create a generation of founders coming from the region.
Many problems in the Northeast region are unique. From agriculture to local commerce and digital infrastructure, there are many opportunities for innovation.
Local founders understand these challenges better than anyone else. When they build solutions, those solutions are often more practical and impactful.
The collaboration between the Tripura government and startup ecosystem partners will also bring national networks to the region.
This means founders in the state can get exposure to mentorship, accelerators, investors, and industry experts who were previously difficult to access.
Over time, this could significantly accelerate startup growth in the region.
For founders building from smaller cities, opportunities like this matter a lot.
The biggest barrier many founders face is not talent or ideas. It is access. Access to networks, guidance, capital, and exposure.
Programs like T-NEST help bridge that gap.
When ecosystems begin to develop locally, founders no longer need to feel isolated. They can build companies while staying connected to their communities.
Being invited to the launch of T-NEST was a proud moment for Fueler and for me personally as a founder from Agartala.
It reminded me that startup ecosystems do not grow overnight. They grow slowly through policies, communities, founders, and people who are willing to build.
Tripura has talent. The Northeast has creativity and resilience. What it needed was the ecosystem.
T-NEST is a step in that direction. And I truly believe the next generation of startups from this region will build solutions that impact not just India but the world.
