Four years ago, I never imagined I would visit companies like Google and Microsoft to represent Fueler and my state. Today, I stood inside Microsoft's Hyderabad campus, representing Northeast India at one of the world's biggest tech companies. This journey felt surreal, but it proved something important: geography doesn't decide your success anymore.
I'm Riten, founder of Fueler, a platform that helps freelancers and professionals get hired through their work samples. What happened at Microsoft wasn't just a personal milestone. It was proof that startups from small towns can compete with anyone, anywhere.
The Telangana Northeast Connect brought startup founders from Northeast India to experience Hyderabad's entrepreneurial ecosystem. This wasn't just another networking event. It was an initiative to connect two regions that rarely interact in the startup world.
Telangana Governor Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, the Government of Telangana, DIT Agartala, and IT Bhavan, organised the event. Their goal was to show Northeast founders the possibilities of when you have access to the right resources, mentors, and infrastructure.
For someone like me, who built Fueler from a small town with limited resources for the first 2 years, this opportunity meant everything. It showed me that the government is actively working to reduce the gap between metros and smaller cities.
Walking into Microsoft's campus felt like entering a different world. The infrastructure, the energy, the way teams collaborate - everything was designed to help people do their best work.
I met team leads, product managers, and business leaders who shared their insights on building products that serve millions of users. These conversations taught me more in a few hours than months of reading articles online.
Technology has changed everything about how startups can be built. Today, a founder in Agartala has access to the same tools, platforms, and information as someone in Bangalore.
Cloud infrastructure from AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure costs the same everywhere. You don't need an office in a metro to build a world-class product. The internet has become the great equalizer.
Social media helps you build an audience without spending money on traditional marketing. We built Fueler's initial community entirely through Twitter and LinkedIn. That wouldn't have been possible ten years ago.
Remote work culture means you can hire the best talent regardless of where they live. Your developer can be in Kerala, your designer in Manipur, and your marketer in Delhi. Location doesn't matter anymore.
Government initiatives like Startup India, state startup schemes, and programs like Telangana Northeast Connect are actively working to support founders from smaller cities. The support system is getting stronger every year.
If you're building a startup in Tripura, you have more support than you think. The Tripura Startup scheme was created specifically to help founders like us.
The scheme provides seed funding to early-stage startups. This money can help you build your first version, hire your initial team, or test your product with real users. Getting your first funding is always the hardest part, and this scheme makes it easier.
Mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs helps you avoid common mistakes. When you're a first-time founder, having someone who has been through the journey before can save you months of trial and error.
Access to co-working spaces gives you a professional environment to work from. Building a startup from home is hard. Having a dedicated workspace helps you separate work from personal life and stay focused.
Networking opportunities connect you with other founders, potential customers, and investors. Building relationships is crucial in the startup world, and these events make it easier.
The Tripura Startup team guides you through practical challenges like legal compliance, accounting, and business registration. These administrative tasks can be overwhelming for first-time founders, and having expert help makes a huge difference.
The bottom line is: Problem exists everywhere, you have to ask for help. If you don’t, nobody will help you on their own.
The Real Message: Your Work Does the Talking
Standing in Microsoft's campus, I realized something important. The journey from Agartala to Hyderabad wasn't about me. It was about proving that any founder, from any town, can build something valuable if they keep working consistently.
Your location shapes your journey, but it doesn't limit your potential. The internet, cloud infrastructure, and government support have leveled the playing field more than ever before.
What matters now is your ability to solve real problems, build products that people actually need, and keep improving based on feedback. Your work speaks louder than your address.
Events like Telangana Northeast Connect show that the ecosystem is evolving. Governments, corporations, and startup communities are actively working to include founders from all parts of India.
